WHO and Where to Expect the HIV Epidemic

Head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) HIV/AIDS Department, epidemiologist Kevin De Cock, has been criticized for suggesting that the threat of an HIV epidemic is limited to sub-Saharan Africa, men who have sex with men, sex workers and injecting drug users. In response to Dr De Cock’s statements, WHO and UNAIDS issued a statement, saying: ‘AIDS remains the leading infectious disease challenge in global health. To suggest otherwise is irresponsible and misleading.’
