White Rabbit Red Rabbit: Theatre of Mystery

Alicia Osyka-001

Actor and improviser Alicia Osyka is about to take on a very unique challenge: she’s starring in a play she knows nothing about. Perth Theatre Company’s ‘White Rabbit, Red Rabbit’ is performed by a different actor every night over its two week season, all of whom are forbidden to know anything about the play until they are handed a script the moment before they walk onstage. No research, no rehearsals.

“Someone mentioned that I’ll be getting a letter or an email from the writer a few days before the show. But I’m not sure what that email will contain, it might just say ‘Good luck’ or it might just have some kind of hints or instructions or something, but it’s all a mystery.” Osyka said. Osyka’s fellow intrepid performers include some of Perth best-known theatre performers, such as Sam Longley and Alison Van Reeken, and some unexpected stars, notable Greens Senator Scott Ludlam.

“We’re all in the dark. And I think that’s the best way to go about it, because then both the performers and the audience are going to be experiencing this thing for the first time together, which is really nice. Osyka said. The actor says she’s up for anything. Well, almost. “I hope I don’t have to get naked. That’d be about it.”

‘White Rabbit Red Rabbit’ is downstairs at the State Theatre Centre of WA from September 2nd to 13th. Tickets available from www.ticketek.com.au
