Two gay men have been each sentenced to six months jail in Senegal after residents alerted police to a gay couple living in their neighbourhood.
On Friday both men pleased guilty to engaging in homosexual sex. The judged order them both to service six months imprisonment. The Senegalese penal code does allow for up to five years jail time and fines of $3,000.
Last year US President Barack Obama called on the Senglasese government to change their anti-gay laws. Senegalese president Mack Saul responded;
“We are still not ready to decriminalize homosexuality. I’ve already said it in the past. We’re still not ready to change the law. This does not mean that we are all homophobic.”
