Tear gas thrown into gay bar in Croatian capital; two injured

An unidentified person has detonated a canister of tear gas in a Croatian gay bar earlier this month.

Zagreb’s Super Super nightclub was attacked at approximately 3:30am. Partygoers have reported a massive rush to the exits which led to at least two injured attendees.

The Washington Post have reported that Croatian gay rights groups have denounced the incident as an “act of hate violence.”

Zagreb Pride have denounced their conservative government for ignoring the rise of right-wing sentiment in their country.

The group has also called on police to “carry out [a] fast and effective investigation and to identify and bring to justice those responsible for this awful physical assault.

Croatia has protections for the LGBT community in the form of anti-discrimination and hate-crime laws, through reports of abuse are still common at Pride events.
