Tea with Miss Katherine :: Panache

Miss katherine takes afternoon tea on her porch with one of Perth’s rising drag stars, the very talented and ever so nice Panache, to discuss her shows so far, her drag family, her short time on the stage, opportunities, girly colors and an adoring fan base while sipping Earl Grey Tea and fresh scones.

Oh Miss Panache, it is lovely to be sitting here on the porch enjoying the last rays of Autumn sunshine! Welcome darling! How are you?

I am fabulous and thank you Miss katherine!

Last time I saw you, you were runner up in Queen of the Court competition at the Court Hotel, you were my favorite! What did you do after that?

A lot of people said I was their favorite! After that I moved to Queensland with my fiancé but it did not suit him so we came back..

Well Perth is very fortunate to have your stage talent back again anyway! Have you been doing any shows lately?

Aside from the Christmas show at the Court I have only ventured out to do Amateur Drag Night on Wednesdays at The Court, I really love the classic feel of Bette Midler and Celine Dion but lately I have been really enjoying more upbeat numbers like Whitney Houston and The Young Divas. I feel like an old soul even though I am young.

You do seem like an old soul actually. Do you enjoy working at The Court?

I do I love The Court, it has the atmosphere I love. I do love Connections too but The Court is special to me.

Would you ever work at Connections if the opportunity arose?

If a job came up and Panache was offered she would snap it up! (giggle)

What colors do you love to wear?

Well, I love black even though I am told not to, I love purples, reds, pinks…

How did you get into drag?

I have been performing my whole life, I started at Johnny Young then Vogue Entertainment, musical theater and dance etc. I was even accepted to John Curtain College of the Arts for Musical Theater and my whole life has been entertainment. My first days as an adult clubbing I saw Swish and I was captured. I thought to myself straight away “this is something I would do, something I could respect!” My next birthday party was PRIDE themed I decided I wanted to go in drag so I asked Mother, my drag mother Miss Venemous, to do my face for me and I loved it! I practiced my own make up at home at least 5 times until I decided to make my debut on the scene. My first number was by Cher and from there I performed every week up until Queen of the Court, I have a really nice fan base so I do feel lucky… that is how I started out in drag.

My gosh, Miss Venemous is your drag mother, she is lovely!

Yes Miss Venemous is my drag mother which I believe makes Val Nourished my grandmother!

Ha ha ha!!

And I also have two dughters already! Mee Sohorny and May Lasca

(cough) You have started young indeed! Do you have a favourite saying?

Hold no regrets, it is exactly what you wanted at the time.

Well Panache, I know you are going to be a star, I wish you well on your journey and look forward to following your professional career.
