Tea With Miss Katherine :: Miss Vene-Mous

Miss Katherine excitedly takes tea with the winner of this years Death By Drag competition at Connections Nightclub – the sparkling and vivacious Miss Vene-Mous – to discuss drag Mothers, vibrant colours and her place in the new Supermodels drag show while feasting on fresh apple and cinnamon muffins.

Welcome to my parlour Miss Vene-Mous, and congratulations on your win!

First of all, thank you so much Miss Katherine, it really means a lot for you to congratulate me! It was actually somewhat euphoric to be on stage and be judged by my peers and to be chosen to be the winner by them was an amazing moment for me – one of my best!

You are so sweet! How long have you been doing drag for?

Seven or eight months now. I have performed Wednesday’s at the amateur drag night at The Court Hotel and once before at Connections for Beatbox Fashion Victims. [Editor’s note: Go to her MySpace to check out the documentary of that night.]

What were your prizes for winning Death By Drag?

It was $500 in cash, one of the stars in the new show Supermodels at Connies in early September, a $50 voucher for waxing and tanning (which is going to come in handy mind you), a $100 bar card and 20% off a new Uber Riah wig from wigsbyvanity.com!

You mean to tell me you are about to perform in September with some of the reigning drag queens of Perth? Are you nervous?

I have a lot to live up to and I have a lot of work cut out for me. I want to impress. I am nervous – but I am excited at the same time.

A few of the contestants in the contest pulled out because drag was just too expensive for them to maintain and they could not afford to stay in the competition. Were you surprised at how expensive it is to be a drag queen?

I was warned in advance – first and foremost by Cherry Le Queer and Val Uptuous and a few others. I have managed by buying one item a week and coordinating them so one outfit turns into 20.

That is clever! What did you do to celebrate your win?

I stayed out till 3am (which is baaaad because I had to work Saturday morning), then went out the Saturday night and everyone kept buying me drinks… so we had a big celebration party.

Favourite drag colours?

Definitely UV pink, electric purple and royal blue.

I love a bit of vibrancy too! How old are you?

I am turning 19 soon.

You poor old thing! Do you have a drag mother?

Yes, Val Uptuous.

Miss Val Uptuous. She has a lot of drag babies that one – very fertile indeed!

Ha ha, yes, I do have a lot of sisters!

Do you have a favourite saying?

Shit, I can’t breath!

Gasp! Oh no – would you like a glass of water?

No, that’s my favourite saying!
