Fremantle’s The Raw Kitchen delivers some incredibly tasty and undoubtedly healthy food.
Taking over the old Jim Kidd Sports Shop space on High Street near Victoria Hall the Raw Kitchen is Fremantle’s newest and hippest place to eat. The cavernous space is filled with old train seats, shipping containers and rustic wooden tables that create a very Fremantle decor.
On my first trip (there are definitely going to be more) to the busy restaurant I sampled some spiced almond milk polenta served with Jamaican Cacao Mole sauce, jerk spiced seasonal vegetables and a Romescu sauce. While that food description does sound like one of the frippiest* meals available it was packed with flavours that hit you like a solid punch. Teamed up with a ‘Garden Party’ juice that combined cucumber, fennel, ginger, mint, lemon, parsley, coriander and apple – I felt like I had been given an IV shot of energy and detox.
For the uninitiated raw food is not necessarily cold, things can be cooked – but generally never hotter than about 40 degrees.
Looking down the restaurant’s menu there are more than enough tempting options to make multiple visits including zucchini pasta with raw tomato sauce, mushrooms, olives, avocado and basil or the very tempting five seaweed salad with mango and beetroot.
Raw Kitchen is at 181A High Street in Fremantle.
