Talking Dirty with Wynter Gordon

Kitten heels, lingerie, pantyhose, foreplay, legs up on the bar these are few of Wynter Gordon’s favourite things. Or at least they appear to be so in her smash hit chart topping single, Dirty Talk.

List songs have always captured the fervour and excitement of a moment (think Billy Joel and R.E.M.). Gordon’s single has come around at the right time, opening up a whole new generation’s imagination to the possibility of explicit fun, joining a long list of erotic pop songs to hit number one on the Australian charts.

But what seems to have captured the Australian imagination the most is the sex factor Gordon plays to her chart-topping innocent contemporary Alexis Jordan, the pair a cultural yin-yang of female sexuality. Where Jordan purrs about love and being bad, Gordon gets elbow deep into the act. And we all know we much prefer our bad girls really really bad.

OUTinPerth caught up with Gordon to get the lowdown on what 2011 has in-store for one of this year’s dirtiest girls.

Where did the name Wynter come from?
It’s a stage name that depicts the season I was in when I began my creative journey.

Dirty Talk hit number 1 here in Australia but had been released a year previously in America, what did the journey involve over the last year?
A lot of shows and performances, I love the grind and hard work and they say that nothing worth it ever comes easy.

You come from a pretty large family… what did they think of Dirty Talk and its particularly racy lyrics?
They thought it was funny and appreciated the tongue in cheek references.

How did you find Mardi Gras?
I loved Mardi Gras!!! The Energy was incredible and the people really embraced me. I had an amazing time. Obviously, I love Australia!

Who has been the most surprising and rewarding person you’ve worked with to date?
Nick Littlemore from Empire of The Sun. He taught me how to be free. To seek a free way to creatively express myself to the world. He’s an amazing inspiration in my life.

What does 2011 have in store for Wynter Gordon?
I’m releasing my second single Til Death and then I’ll be releasing my album. I am so proud of the material on this album and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.
