Symphony No 9 – CD Review

Phillip Glass
Orange Mountain Music

This year classical music composer Phillip Glass will be celebrating his 70th birthday but he shows no sign of slowing down, with several new works premiering in 2012 including this one his Ninth Symphony which had its debut performance on New Year’s Day. The new work has his signature sound, but it’s lively and fast paced, filled with drama. Split over three movements, the work is different from Glass’ previous compositions as it does not have his regular mellow later sections. Sit and listen to this music and your mind will wander and your imagination will soar. If you’ve never listened to Glass here’s a good starting point. – Graeme Watson
