'The Sound of Music' actor Heather Menzies-Urich dies

Heather Menzies-Urich, who as a teenager starred as Louisa Von Trapp in the musical The Sound of Music has died aged 68.

She was just 14 years old when she played the third eldest child of the famous singing family, and it was her first acting role. Pictured above, Menzies- Urich is fourth from the left.

Her death was announced by the Estate of Rogers and Hammerstein, the musical duo who wrote the award winning stage musical. The movie version made it’s debut in 1964.

After her debut in The Sound of Music Menzies-Urich appeared in film and television programmes, including TJ Hooker, The Bob Newhart Show, Marcus Welby M.D. and the TV series Logan’s Run – which was based on the film of the same name.

The actor was diagnosed with brain cancer just a month ago, and died surrounded by her family. Her husband, actor Robert Urich died of cancer in 2002, the couple had been married since 1975.

Menzies-Ulrich’s death follows that of Charmian Carr, who played eldest sister Leisl, she died in 2016.
