Scientists in South Africa and South Korea are working to develop a Smartphone App that will work as a functioning HIV test.
The proposed phone app named ‘Smartscope’ will be able to analyze photos taken of blood samples, measuring levels of white blood cells to diagnose the HIV disease.
The test will require a one millimeter microscope that will attach onto the Smartphone, clipping over the installed camera.
The App is set to be running in South Africa next year, where close to six million people are HIV-positive. The primary use of the App will be in remote areas rather than inner city areas. Swaziland will also benefit – where a quarter of adults bear the virus.
