Skittles pride promotion faces accusations of racism

While many brands add rainbows for Pride celebrations, candy maker Skittles has gone the other way and removed the rainbow.

The candy, which has the well known tag line “Give the Rainbow, Taste the Rainbow”, has released a completely white version of their product. The special version of the candy is available through British supermarket Tescos.

Announcing the promotion Skittles said they were taking away the rainbow, because during Pride month the only rainbow that matters is the the LGBTIQ rainbow.

The move hasn’t gone according to plan though with the brand facing a backlash as it’s accused on racism and promoting “white supremacy”.

During Pride, only one rainbow matters. So we’ve given up ours to show our support.
Every pack raises money for Tesco’s LGBT+ charity partners.
Give the rainbow. Taste the rainbow. #onerainbow 🏳️‍🌈
