For more than a decade, OUTInPerth has been a pillar for Western Australia’s LGBTI community. You have been the standard-bearer for news, opinion and culture in our great state.

You have always been there for the good times and in times of trouble.

Whether reporting hard truths about our health and wellbeing, pop stars visiting Perth or same-sex marriage, OUTInPerth has been a constant in all our lives.

There are few things more important than having a voice. When we can’t speak up for ourselves; when we need to be reassured, challenged or inspired; when we need to affect change or rein it in. OUTInPerth has always been that voice for the community.

You have provided a platform for LGBTI leaders to put forward their perspectives, defend their positions and celebrate the community’s successes.

You have championed local LGBTI figures like Narelda Jacobs and my colleague Senator Louise Pratt.

And I am particularly grateful for the opportunities and support you have given to me in championing our causes on the national stage.

Today, your presence is ubiquitous and ever-powerful as a neat package of words and pictures lands in our inboxes every day.

On behalf of many, “Thank you OUTInPerth” for your presence in and influence on WA’s LGBTI community.
