Richard E. Grant has been announced as part of the cast for the movie adaptation of the UK’s smash-hit musical, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
The Oscar-nominated star will play a former drag queen and mentor to the titular character, a sixteen-year-old boy who just wants to attend his school ball in drag. The play was inspired by the true story of Jamie Campbell.
The film will also star Happy Valley‘s Sarah Lancashire as Jamie’s mother, Catastrophe‘s Sharon Horgan as Jamie’s teacher and Max Horwood will play the character of Jamie.
The musical created by musicians Dan Gillespie Sells and scriptwriter Tom MacRae has been a huge hit in London, attracting US stars like Bianca Del Rio and Michelle Visage to join the cast.
“The reason I chose this show in particular is because of the very important message it tells,” Visage said of the production.
“It is a great show with great music and talent but more importantly it’s about love, truth and the tenacity of the human spirit. I can’t wait to help audiences to fall in love with the show the way I did when I saw Everybody’s Talking About Jamie for the first time.”
Filming of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is due to begin on June 24th.
