Swing Time Variety Show | Da Parel Speigeltent | Last chance today |★ ★ ★ ½
Russell Bruner, who appears on the cover of this month’s OUTinPerth, hosts a fun hour of burlesque, swing dancing and vaudevillian fun.
This show transports you back to the 1920’s and 1930’s and fills the speigeltent with jazz sounds, snappy suits, coiffed and curled hairstyles and old time showmanship.
Phil Hatton & his five piece ManHatton Jazz Band deliver a wonderful authentic soundtrack for the show which sees a number of talents vocalists sing tunes, alongside some captivating burlesque talent.
A highlights of this show is Zelia Rose, who sang a number of tunes including Ruth Brown’s ‘Big Sweet Baby of Mine’, later in the show she recreated Josephine Baker’s most famous number. It was bananas.
Singer Tamara Jane also delivered some charming tunes, the performer has a mountain of charisma.
The energetic Kelly Ann Doll and host Russell Bruner had a hilarious dance off and later on Sheena Miss Demeanour joined them to support Bruner when he performed his trademark slapstick male burlesque number.
The Perth Swing Dance Academy Performance Troupe were also a big part of the show, showing off their dance moves and vintage fashions.
This show successfully created a special atmosphere and was a lot of fun to watch.
