His death is one of 24 murders that have occurred in the last two weeks on the island that is facing a wave of violent crime. Police are investigating if his death was related to extortion or was possibly a hate crime.

Fret who was just 24 was a rising star in the trap scene, a subgenre of hip hop music that features fast beats and quick paced flows of rap.

The singer was reportedly suffered seven bullet wounds including behind hit in his hip and his head.  His manager released a statement describing the artist as someone who had big dreams.

“Kevin was an artistic soul, a big-hearted dreamer. His passion was music, and [he] still had a lot to do. This violence must stop. There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go. We must all unite in these difficult times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.”

Proudly queer, Fret discussed his sexuality in songs Soy Así (I’m Like This) and on Mike Duran’s song Diferente (Different).
