Protesters took to the streets of Perth today to voice their opposition to both major parties asylum seeker policies.
Speakers at the rally highlighted the Rudd government’s recent decision to relocated refugees arriving by boat to Papua New Guinea.
The decision means that homosexual refugees coming to Australia to flee persecution in their home country due to their sexuality, will now be sent to a country where being gay is illegal.
The protest in the Murray Street mall drew around 300 participants who marched around the city’s malls chanting, “Refugees are welcome here”.
A protest for marriage equality is planned for next Saturday beginning in Stirling Gardens at 1pm.
