President Obama Speaks Out Against Russia

ObamaUS President Barack Obama has spoken out against Russia’s restrictive laws against LGBT people and cancelled a planned one on one meeting with Russian President Putin.

Speaking to Tonight Show host Jay Leno on the popular night time program the President made it clear that he was not happy with the current situation in Russia.

Host Jay Leno commented on Russia’s anti-gay laws that prohibit propaganda relating to gay people being seen by people under 18 and outlaw same sex displays of affection.

“Suddenly homosexuality is against the law. I mean, this sounds like Germany with let’s round up the Jews. Let’s round up the gays. It starts with that. You round up people who you don’t like. I mean, why is not more of the world outraged by this?” asked Leno.

President Obama responded saying he had “no patience for countries that try to treat gays or lesbians or transgender persons in ways that intimidate them or are harmful to them.”

The President also noted that he was not happy with Russia’s decision to grant temporary asylum to NSA leaker Edward Snowden. The president is still indenting to visit Russia next month for the G20 leaders meeting.

Leno’s comparison of the current Russian government to Nazi Germany was the second time the comparison was made yesterday with writer Stephen Fry penning an open letter on the topic just a few hours earlier.
