The Phillippines celebrate Pride in Quezon City

The largest city in the island nation of the Phillippines is celebrating Pride month with a new installation.

Quezon City’s bustling Araneta Centre on the island of Luzon has painted a rainbow crosswalk to celebrate the country’s LGBTI+ community.

The region is following the lead of Cebu Island’s Mandaue City, who painted the Phillippines first rainbow crossing last year during their June Pride celebrations.

Though the people of the archipelago celebrate Pride, the nation is yet to recognise same-gender marriages under law.

Last year, two large Filipino regions enacted laws to protect their LGBTI+ community from discrimination – but the senate are still debating measures at a federal level.
