PET SHOP BOYS – Fundamental

Pet Shop BoysThe two dowagers of British disco returned to what they know best. Fundamental reunites PSB with former producer Trevor Horn, who quickly scrapped the Boys’ plan to create a minimalist electro album. The lead single I’m With Stupid was inspired by Blair’s fawning relationship with Bush and is all walloping synth-drums and high-gloss, ’80s production, while Integral is a thumping, Euro-trance anthem of almost Tatu-like absurdity. In contrast, opener Psychological is set to a moody electro pulse, and the second single Minimal is a killer, all broken beats, New Order bass line and electro breakdowns. There are a couple of sappy bits here and there, but generally it’s a fun time all round.
