People Living with HIV/AIDS WA Inc.

PLWHA WA Inc. is a friendly social group for HIV+ people and their friends and family that provides a supportive environment for people affected by HIV/AIDS to share information and provide peer support through social interaction. We are an independent, community based peer support group run by members for members, providing a safe, non-threatening, confidential, and non-judgemental social environment for the sharing of information.

We aim to promote a positive image of People with HIV/AIDS, with the aim of eliminating prejudice, isolation and discrimination. As well as providing support and advocacy for People Living with HIV/AIDS and those affected by HIV/AIDS in Western Australia, we actively engage in health promotion activities to prevent the spread of HIV.

We were established as a peer support self help group by a group of HIV positive people in 2005, and were incorporated on the 22nd of August 2006. We are affiliate members of the Western Institute of Self Help (WISH).

Positive people, their partners, friends and family (anyone who is infected or affected by HIV regardless of gender or sexual orientation) are all welcome. HIV + people are eligible for full membership and HIV- people or those who do not wish to disclose their status are eligible for associate membership. Membership is not required to attend our social events.

Social events for PLWHA WA Inc are led on the first Sunday of every month at varying venues and include lunches, BBQ’s and information sessions with guest speakers. Our next meeting will be a BBQ at the beach on the 1st of April. RSVP required for venue information.

PLHWA WA Inc is not a sex or a sex contact group.
