Penny Wong New Leader of the Senate

Penny WongSouth Australian Senator Penny Wong has been elected as leader of the government in the senate.

The election of Senator Wong follows the resignation of Senator Conroy from the government’s frontbench after the reinstatement of Kevin Rudd as the leader of the Labor Party.

Senator Wong will be the first woman to hold the role, and the first openly gay person to lead the government in the senate.

Senator Wong was elected to the position unopposed.
