The diving star posted a photo to his Instagram account announcing his engagement.

“He got down on both knees, I said yes, and now we’re engaged.” Mitcham said.

The couple met in Australia, but when Rutherford’s visa ran out they decided to move to the UK. The couple have been dating for seven months.

Mitcham had a successful career as an Olympian, taking part in the Beijing and London Olympics. He later opened up about his experiences as an elite sportsman, and his battles with substance abuse in his memoir Twists and Turns. He later launched a successful cabaret career taking his one man show to Fringe Festivals around the globe.

Congratulations Matthew and Luke!
