New Zealand is on the steady path to legalizing same sex marriage; with the first vote to pass the bill producing overwhelming results in favour of the legislation.
The near-landslide 80 to 40 vote generated cheering and rejoices in a full public gallery, a simple majority vote was all that was required to initiate a second vote. The vote was the first of three that if passed, will mean legal same-sex marriage in the country.
The gay marriage bill in New Zealand was prompted by Barack Obama recently announcing his support of same-sex marriage. The second vote is set to take place in a few months.
