Not to be Missed: Horse Meat Disco

When I went to London on holiday high on my list of things to do was a trip to Horse Meat Disco.

The Sunday night disco party  at The Eagle in Vauxhall has become an institution since it was first launched in 2003.

At the London event the room is filled with a variety of people, but predominately it’s an older queer crowd and there are lots of bears.

It’s was an unusually friendly night, totally strangers came up and chatted to my partner and I. It was relaxed and very chilled.

The four DJ’s who created the brand spin long lost disco tunes. They spend hours searching for records and discovering amazing tracks that maybe didn’t get the recognition they deserved in disco’s hey day. These are mixed together with some of today’s proponents of disco and cosmic sounds.

You can sample the Horse Meat Disco sounds on their compilation albums. ‘Horse Meat Disco Volume Four‘ was released last year. On the groups latest collection there is a mix of funky songs, disco beats and powerhouse vocals.

Now the party is returning to Perth with some of the London DJ’s teaming up with local performers and spinners who love the classic disco sounds.

Willy Slade, Maria Mendes back to back with Nicky Peroni, Holiday Pete, Casual Connection, Roland The Realest, Rex Monsoon and Beecroft Sux wil lall take to the turntables as the party takes over Connections main room and the terrace.

Some of the most interesting avante guarde performance artists will also be helping create a special party vibe. Scottee (UK), Betty Grumble, (Syd), Aaron Manhattan (Syd), Ginava (Per) and Petra Dish (Melb) are all slated to pop up at some point during the party.
