Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen was originally set to play the iconic singer but left the project over creative differences.

Now Malik looks like he’ll be stepping in to the role and director Bryan Singer has confirmed he’ll be directing the project.

The film is titled ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and the other members of Mercury’s band Queen are involved in it’s development.

Mercury passed away in November 1991 from complications related to HIV/AIDS. The singer was famous for his powerful voice, outrageous onstage persona and serious partying.

Alsongside his work with Queen, who continue to sell millions of albums, Mercury also recorded solo albums and an opera project with Spanish Soprano Montserrat Caballé.
