Michigan Senate passes bill to make sodomy illegal

US-flagThe Senate of the state of Michigan has passed a bill that may make sodomy illegal is the US state.

The clause which states that anal sex is ““the abominable and detestable crime against nature with mankind or with any animal.” was included in a bill on animal protection.

The state’s legislature is attempting to past a host of bills to protect animals, and stop people who abuse animals from owning pets. The only problem is that the state’s outdated laws treat bestiality as being akin to homosexuality.

Law makers say they are concerned that an attempt to remove the outdated language will kill the bills progress. So they’ve left the outdated phrases in the law.

‘The minute I cross that line and I start talking about the other stuff, I won’t even get another hearing. It’ll be done,’ Senator Rick Jones, the sponsor of the bill, told The New Civil Rights Movement.

The inclusion of the work ‘mankind’ has been seen as an attempt to reaffirm sodomy laws which are on the state’s law books despite a Supreme Court ruling saying they are unconstitutional.

The laws are not targeted at the gay and lesbian community, but apply to all people regardless of sexuality. The felony law would see people jailed for 15 years for committing an offence, or life imprisonment if they were a registered sex offender.
