Ordinarily, Malarkey Molasses Baudelaire the 15th would be an incredibly long name for a cat… unless that cat is owned by a writer. And if that writer happens to be OUTinPerth’s Scott-Patrick Mitchell… well, he has an incredibly active imagination, one which seems to apply to his beautiful black boy cat, Malarkey.
‘Sometime ago I wrote a story called The Chaochamber which featured a lot of magical black cats. Malarkey was the lead character. I simply recreated him in real life,’ explained Mitchell.
And Malarkey sure is loveable. Part poser (just like his father), Malarkey’s real charm is the fact that having been raised in such a loving environment, he just loves to cuddle. The moment he’s scooped up he flops just like a Ragdoll Cat, even though he’s pure mog. A talkative little critter, Malarkey is happy to maul and drawl for anything, from food to love to simply being able. He’s also happy to play dress-ups or pose for an impromptu photo shoot.
‘I love fashion,’ confided Mitchell, ‘and the most extravagant thing I have done for Malarkey is make him a series of kitty couture collars.’
Edwardian, evening wear, pirate or dirty fluoro electro – you name the occasion, Malarkey has a collar to match it.
