Rapper Macklemore has pledged a donation to the ‘Yes’ campaign for marriage equality.
The performer has announced his portion of Australian profits from the tune Same Love will go to the ‘Yes’ campaign. The song, which was number one on the Australian charts four years ago, shot back up to the top spot after conservative politicians called for it to be banned.
Macklemore spoke to Chanel Nine and revealed that the NRL had booked his for the gig months before the government even suggested it would be having a postal survey on marriage equality.
The rapper said while people had signed a petition calling for the song to be dropped from his performance, substantially more had got behind the song and it’s meaning.
“There’s an over-pour of love, that is resistance against that hatred.” Macklemore said.
Macklemore and Mary Lambert rehearsed the song today ahead of their Grand Final performance tomorrow.
