Australian soul singer Luke Antony has delivered his take on the classic Cyndi Lauper tune True Colors.
The accompanying video clip also features 19-year-old Brisbane modelling sensation Madeline Stuart, the world’s first Supermodel with Down syndrome.
This year the iconic ballad is celebrating its 30th anniversary. As a passionate advocate of LGBTIQ issues, Cyndi always intended the song to be an anthem celebrating differences and diversity – something that Luke Antony also says is very close to his heart.
True Colors was written by songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly.
The duo also penned Madonna’s Like a Virgin and a lot of other hits. Among their well known tunes is Eternal Flame recorded by The Bangles, Whitney Houston’s So Emotional and Heart’s Alone.
Steinberg and Kelly originally pitched the song to country artist Anne Murray, who passed on the tune. The song writers have said that Cyndi Lauper stripped the tune back from it’s original style as a country – gospel number.
A lot of artist have cover the tune in the last three decades, versions by Phil Collins and Kasey Chambers have scored a place in the charts. Recently the song has been covered by Welsh band Marina and The Diamonds, while Justin Timberlake recorded a version with Anna Kendrick from the animated movie Trolls.
