BADMINTON

Not long now until G&L Badminton has 4 more courts to support our ever-growing number of players. The Alma Venville Recreation Centre is currently sourcing poles, which have to be hand-made to match the nets they recently purchased.

G&L Badminton is now averaging well over 20 players on Wednesday nights. Although most people haven’t played since high school, but adapt quickly nonetheless and surprise themselves with the ease in which their skills increase – after only the first night!

Five players are now expressing interest to attend the Asia Pacific Outgames in Melbourne next year. We have also been approached by Badminton WA, who have offered their support in a variety of ways including publicity, and competition should we ever get that good!

G&L Badminton meets every Wednesday night at Alma Venville Recreation Centre in Maylands.

FOOTY TIPPING

The tips remain close with just 7 points separating the top tipper from the wooden spooner. Mattperth remains at the top of the leader board with 82 points, though he shares the spot with ozcobbler. Ashleyelder, just one point back, continues to have a great season. The OUTinPerth staff who had a better month this month, but nevertheless are struggling to make the top 10, are left to wonder what insider knowledge the leaders have been gleaning.

GAELIC

Last month’s featured club, Coastal Breakers have seen their numbers continue to grow – and not just at the pub sessions. They came very close to beating the top placed Greenwood in the July 15 round, and beat Finbars (2nd placed) in the June 24 round.

A mad party at a team mate’s house included cocktails, dress-ups, commando Ros, rugby tackles – ‘clearing’, stacks on, cheetos, jelly & sticky, underwear dancing & WWF… and it all started so civilly. Unfortunately following the aforementioned mad party came a disappointing loss to Morley. With new strips they now claim to be the best dressed club in the league

There are only 3 more rostered games for the winter ’07 season. Coastal Breakers are sitting comfortably in fourth spot on the ladder, which would ensure them a spot in the final series which starts August 26th. The improvement of all of their rookies has been phenomenal, and quite a few have been selected for state squad training. Good luck to all those players hoping for selection – the states are in NSW this year in October. Keep an ear out for that, and for the upcoming Coastal Breakers Texas Hold ‘Em fundraiser.

  • 1) Greenwood (10-0-0)
  • 2) St Finbarrs (6-3-1)
  • 3) Southern Districts (6-3-1)
  • 4) Coastal Breakers (4-6-0)
  • 5) Morley Gaels (2-8-0)
  • 6) Western Shamrocks (1-9-0)
