LOTON PARK TENNIS CLUB
Loton Park’s Summer Tennis Season is winding to an end, and the Grass courts will be closed from June 7th. However, take heart tennis fans, as social tennis will continue through the winter season with the clubhouse open every Sunday from 1pm for a few friendly matches and bevies.
To close the summer comp, the Club hosted its Annual Dinner and Awards night at the Court Hotel. It was a great night with the Club Champions receiving their trophies and medals. In June the end of season fun continues with the Club’s next main event – Quiz Night. Brush up on your Grand Slam trivia and round up those tables, as Quiz Night fills the Club House with questions on June 14, starting at 7pm. Tables of 6 are available at $10 per member, $15 per non-members. Don’t miss out on this fun night and the chance to win over $2,000 in prizes. For tickets or more details phone Michelle on 0418 942 231 or email enquiries@lotonpark.com.au.
G&L BADMINTON
G&L Badminton is a mix every week of core regular players, badminton virgins and unexpected blasts from the past. Whatever your experience level, G&L Badminton has a match to suit. Equipment is provided, and participation is on a pay-to-play basis, no joining fee. All games are friendly, so come along to one of the friendliest places on the gay and lesbian circuit – Alma Venville Recreation Centre, near the corner of Eighth Avenue and Guildford Road in Maylands, on Wednesdays 7.30pm-9.30pm.
GAELIC – COASTAL BREAKERS
Now in their second season, the Coastal Breakers are providing some stiff competition for the older clubs. The club has retained 13 valuable ’07 players and have been injected with some wicked recruits. Numbers are consistently great, making for a full bunch and a strong showing at trainings. Recruits aren’t all that’s new for the Breakers who are also training at an all new ground – Britannia in Mount Hawthorne. Funnily enough, it’s still right near the Paddington Ale House, who have generously renewed their sponsorship.
Speaking of the Paddo, last month was the farewell ‘tea’ part for one of Breakers finest, Miss Plum (all the best in Broome). The farewell has set the tone for team tea and scones at the Paddo on Wednesdays and Sundays. With fines coming in thick and fast, there are further social events, er, ‘cross-trainings’ in the works – bowling and roller-skating for starters.
The Breakers have backed up their prowess in the pub with their prowess on the pitch. To date their only narrow loss has come without three key senior players. Their much anticipated game against the 7-time reigning premiers, Greenwood, is on June 08 and with all but one player available for the round it promises to be a hard-fought match. Can the Breakers break Greenwood’s winning streak? Get down to Tom Bateman Reserve on June 8 at 10am to find out!
WAWFL
The women’s AFL season is hitting hard and fast once again this winter. Following a split last season into two divisions – League and Reserve – the league has further expanded to 6 teams in both divisions and clubs can be found as far south as Rockingham and as far north as Innaloo. If you are keen for a run around the oval, visit www.wawfl.com.au to find a club near you.
SWIMMING – RAINBOW WARRIORS
The Rainbow Warriors are keeping warm this summer, taking advantage of Perth’s heated pools at their Sunday morning sessions. The group swims every Sunday at 9am, so if you are looking for a good training session in the water (minimum of 1km swimming), call Alain on 0414 561 488 for venue details.
THE GOLF BAGS
The Golf Bags is a lesbian group that plays 9 holes of golf every Saturday morning at different metro courses north and south of the river with the odd out-of-towner/overnighter/afternooner thrown in. Golfing talents vary quite markedly, but they operate a handicapping system to level the playing field. Prizes are given every week for longest drive and nearest the pin. There is no joining fee, just a standard $18 to play. If you are a lesbian and golf is your bag, they are always looking for new members.
