L.E.F. – Ferry Corsten – Posativa

L.E.F.Ferry Corsten’s released his latest album the especially varied L.E.F., aka Loud Electronic Ferocious, which lets him present his wide range of dance music talent. He isn’t exactly groundbreaking with his arrangements, but cannot really be blamed for overt plagiarism of trends, either. In fact, Galaxia is the only trance track, which could be called even somewhat normal here, as the other tracks take their nuances from a completely different direction. The album gets started with its Morse code intro and the use of obscure but functional sounds goes even further with other tracks. After the intro, the basically very bizarre Are You Ready kicks in. The rhythms pack a punch and the edgy sounds bring in some life, but in the end the tune drags on for too long. Galaxia and Daylight are much more average instrumental pieces and, even with its chill-out moods, Freefalling also ends up as a mediocre track. L.E.F. and Cubikated, on the other hand, are something completely different. With rough arrangements, tight rhythms and especially the retro-like computer game sounds, the sharp title track is definitely the best of them all. Cubikated is based on 808 State’s Cubik and does a nice job with its rougher versioning. More than half of the tracks come with remarkably pop-ish vocal parts. Into The Dark, Possession, Watch Out and Junk are clearly the best vocal tracks here. Howard Jones manages to develop the mood nicely in Into The Dark, whereas Possession includes some truly excellent sounds. With its vocoder vocals and obscure sounds, Watch Out represents harder and more high-flying side of the album. Closely related to Corsten’s Punk single, the vocals in Junk are performed by featuring artist Guru. Among the vocal tracks are also some of the most awful songs on the album, as proved by the crappy sounds of Beautiful and Down On Love. The single release Fire samples Duran Duran’s Serious, but still fails to develop into anything larger than life, even though style-wise the track has its moments.
