Actor Jeffrey Tambor has thanked the trans community for their support in his acceptance speech at the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards. Tambor dedicated his best actor for Lead in a Comedy Series to the trans community.
“I’d like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community. Thank you for your patience, thank you for your courage, thank you for your stories, thank you for your inspiration, thank you for letting us be part of the change,” Tambor said.
The actor won he award for his portrayal of a transgender woman coming out of the closet later in life in the TV series ‘Transparent’. In the show Tambor plays Maura Pfefferman (born Morton Pfefferman), a retired college professor of political science who finally opens up to her family about always identifying as a woman.
Jill Soloway who created the show and serves as it’s head writer, won an Emmy for Best Directing of a Comedy Series for the episode “Best New Girl”.
West Wing alumni Bradley Whitford won the Guest Actor, Comedy category for his portrayal of a transphobic cross-dresser in the series.
