LOTON PARK TENNIS
Join Loton Park Tennis Club before January 31 and be in the draw to win a free racket! The club’s membership has grown slowly and steadily this year, and they now have over 60 full members. The club welcomes all skill levels, including those who have never played, but are keen to learn. For those into more competitive action, the club has a number of teams in local competition and on target to make the finals. The current standing for Loton Park’s teams are: Men’s Open Div 1 crew, 1st; Men’s over 35 Div 3, 8th; Women’s over 35 Div 2, 3rd; Women’s Night Div 6, 2nd; and a Mixed Night Div 1, 3rd.
There’s loads planned for 2008 at Loton Park – Australia Day Sunsmart Competition and Fireworks Night, February Handicap Competition, Easter Weekend Away… Meanwhile, Loton Park has regular social tennis on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.
Full year membership costs $205, concession $160, social $30. Casual players are always welcome and cost $5 for Wednesdays, $12 for Saturdays. For more information or to become a member, contact Michelle Rigg on 0418 942 231 or Gary on 0409 376 615. The club website (www.lotonpark.com) has event information and playing schedules.
GAELIC SUMMER COMP
Attention female footballers, the Summer Gaelic comp is here! Individual and group nominations are welcome – all nominations due by January 21. Games are on Monday evenings starting in February. The comp is purely social, so there is no club training and individuals pay per game they play. Games will be held at Shirley Strickland Oval on Monday evenings starting in February. For more information about the competition, visit their website.
G&L SWIMMING
In case a 46-degree Boxing Day wasn’t clue enough, summer is here! Which, of course, means one thing – the G&L Swim Club have ditched the pool and jumped into the ocean. You can take a 30-40 minute dip with the club on Sunday mornings. Following the swim, the group typically dries off over a cup of (iced) coffee. For further details about the weekly swim or the group, contact Alain Ludva on 0431 333 464.
OUTinPERTH BIKERS
Too much festivities and too much heat have meant that the OUTinPerth Bikers went on a holiday sabbatical. Have no fear with the new year and all the resolutions that come with it, the group will be back on track in January. OUTinPerth Bikers meet Saturdays at 9.30am at All About Bike Hire on the foreshore in Perth for a 10-16km bike ride. Rumour still has it they may have an identity crisis at some point in the month and take to the river as the OUTinPerth Kayakers. For more information, contact Allan at ads@www.outinperth.com or on 0403 363 605.
SAPPHIC TRAMPERS
The Sapphic Trampers have mapped out a great schedule of events for 2008. With the warmer weather upon us, the group will head out kayaking in February, and take an evening riverside walk followed by an outdoor movie and picnic in March. And the group is already looking towards the Bibbulmum Track for some wintertime fun…
But back to February, the group will explore Bassendean by foot or kayak – you chose. Trampers can opt for a 2-hour walk or paddle through historic Bassendean and the neighboring Ashfield Flats. Paddlers will need to provide their own canoe or kayak. Both walkers and paddlers will meet at 10am at the Sandy Beach Reserve at the end of West Road, Bassendean. Following the walk/paddle, the group will have a BYO picnic BBQ lunch.
For more information and to get a copy of the Trampers schedule by email or snail mail, contact Leah on leahk@westnet.com.au or 0429 699 474. For more information about the February event, contact Sue and Rosita on 0421 473 217 or scandrd@iinet.net.au.
G&L BADMINTON
We are back for the new year! After a three week break for Christmas and a great end-of-year BBQ organised by Matt, G&L opened 2008 with 37 pent-up badminton players, including a couple of newbies who enjoyed their first games since high school, chomping to get back on court. This year promises to be bigger than ever, with 7 courts now available for our permanent use on Wednesday nights, and a handful of badmintoners heading to Melbourne for the Asia Pacific Outgames. Good luck!
