Wales’ biggest Pride event Pride Cymru just ran from August 24-26 with over 50,000 people attending celebrations in Cardiff. Across the country pride flags were flown but one small town has refused to fly the Pride flag.

Carmarthen is south-west Wales also refused to fly the flag during gay history month. A fan asked Rheon, who grew up in the town, what he thought of the decision and he didn’t mince his words.

“I think it’s terrible. Shame on them. We should celebrate each other and everyone should be represented.” Rheon posted to Twitter.

The council however has hit back at the actor saying it has flown the flag on previous occasions and is supportive on LGBTIQ+ people.

Councillor Emlyn Dole told Wales Online that it was simply a case of nobody having asked for it to be flown.

‘We have flown the Rainbow Flag on three occasions so far this year, for two days during LGBT History month in February; on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia in May; and at Llanelli Town Hall to celebrate a local LGBT Day event in August.

‘We have received no other requests to fly the Rainbow Flag, and likewise have not refused any requests.’ Cr Dole said.

Iwan Rheon is best known for his role as the villainous Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones, he previously appeared on the TV series Misfits. While appearing in Game of Thrones simultaneously he was part of the cast of the TV show Vicious which saw Sir Derek Jacobi and Sir Ian McKellen. He is now appearing in the series Inhumans.
