Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is a reality TV show from the USA that focuses on child beauty pageant contestant Alana Thompson (Honey Boo Boo) and her family from rural McIntyre, Georgia.

‘Uncle Poodle’ Lee Thompson, who is openly gay, has previously spoken about the challenges of being a gay man in the south of the USA.

In his interview Thompson revealed that he is regularly tested for HIV and last year he learned that he had contracted the virus. Thompson subsequently discovered that his boyfriend was HIV-positive but had failed to tell him of his status, and that his boyfriend had not been taking his HIV medication.  Thompson later filed charges against his boyfriend.
