A discriminatory ban that prevents the LGBT community from donating blood has been lifted in Argentina.
Previously, the LGBT community has been listed as a ‘high risk group’ – questions regarding sexuality have been posed prior to donating blood.
The passing of new laws that remove discrimination occurred on the Argentinean LGBT Pride Day ‘National Congress have progressed towards the elimination of the prohibition, [it is the] only ban based on prejudice and misinformation’, said Estaban Paulon, the president of the Argentinean Federation of LGBT’s.
Healthy members of the Argentinean LGBT community are now free to donate blood if they wish.
