Head Scratch: Aspiring UK politician says drinking water makes people gay

Do chemicals in the drinking water make you gay?

Susan King is the Liberal Democrat’s candidate for the seat of Telford in Shropshire in the upcoming United Kingdom general election.

During a web-cast interview with the local newspaper Shropshire Star the candidate shared her views on what makes people same sex attracted, blaming hormones in the drinking water. It’s a ridiculous statement, but not the craziest we’ve come across.

“People’s choice of lifestyle is again down to their personal preferences.” King prefaced her comments.

“I do feel environmental influences are affecting reproduction. All the pollution is having an effect on our DNA and our population is changing and evolving.”

“There are a lot of feminising hormones getting into the environment and that has to be taken into consideration.

“It’s affecting people’s sexuality basically. People are at liberty to interpret how they want to live themselves.”

The candidate went on to say that chemicals used in making plastic products, such as children’s toys, were affecting the gender of fish.

King’s explanation that drinking water is the root of queerness, is not the first bizarre claim about why some people are gay.

Albanian psychologist says eating carbs makes you gayand abstaining from ejactulation can make you straight.

Recently an Albanian psychologist self-published a paper claiming that fast food is the cause of homosexuality.

Rita Strakosha said her observation was that gay people ate too many carbs.

“Gay men, lesbian and bisexual women report a higher odds of sugar-sweetened beverage consumption than straight men and women.

“Access to a high calorie diet and alcoholic drinks was limited to the social elite circles in the past. Homosexuality as well appears to have been more frequent among that group.”

“Access to a high calorie diet and alcoholic drinks was limited to the social elite circles in the past. Homosexuality as well appears to have been more frequent among that group.” Strakosha claims in her paper.

The author advocates a special diet to cure people of homosexuality. She also quotes a Chinese herbalist who suggests men should refrain from ejaculating as it too can increase your chances of becoming same sex attracted. According to the paper, which as not been peer reviewed, having an “ejaculation hibernation” can re-orientate your sexuality.

We thought it was because we’re all possessed by ghosts

In 2016 a report from an organisation called the Spiritual Research Foundation suggested that the reason some people are gay is because they are possessed by ghosts of the opposite gender to their own.

The group claims that 5% of gay people are same sex attracted because of hormonal imbalances, 10% are gay because they had an enjoyable same sex experience as a teenager, while the remaining 85% percent are mostly possessed by ghosts. Note that they said not completely, just mostly – so there’s some wiggle room.

To remove any ghosts from your body the organisation suggests saying a chant 108 times, twice a day, while pointing at your chakras. The chanting should take about 45 minutes on each occasion.

The groups’ suggestion gained them a GLORIA nomination for most outrageous international comment.

Want to relive some of the most outrageous and ridiculous things we’ve come across?

Religious leader says he can make penises grow by rubbing them, religious author Bill Muehlenberg proclaims he’s a milkshake, marriage equality will lead to a generation of children who don’t know who their parents are, or transgender people will destroy people’s belief in God by using powerful magnets.

Previous suggestions for the real reason people are gay include;  tight fitting clothes, or listening to Adele, or it could be Pokemon’s fault, plus eating Two-Minute Noodles, going to jail, dancing, Disney movies, tattoos, smoking, eating too much chicken, and soy products is all covered in this post.
