On the 10th of May the GLBTIQ with Cancer Network in collaboration with the AIDS Council of SA and Gay Men’s Health is launching their new book ‘It’s a real bugger isn’t it dear?: Stories of different sexuality and cancer’.
The free 80 page publication contains stories from 15 Australian men and women sharing their experiences of cancer. There’s a diverse range of writing styles and topics ranging from John Eddleston’s humorous account of the highs and lows of radiotherapy, to Maureen’s encounter with wigs and Ng Cheng-Gim’s piece on the pain of supporting a partner through cancer and the difficulties inherent in doing so when you are gay, blind and have to negotiate family dramas in a foreign country.
The GLBTIQ with Cancer Network claims that there currently are as many as 650,000 GLBTIQ Australians who will be affected by cancer in their lifetimes, and this book was developed in response for the perceived need for GLBTIQ specific support.
‘It’s a real bugger isn’t it dear?’ is available from the GLBTIQ with Cancer Network in South Australia.
