It’s tough when you first move out on your own and have to go about furnishing your first bachelor or bachelorette pad.
While the furniture in glossy catalogs can look great it often lacks a little soul, or is just too damn expensive.
Op Shops, Recycling networks and curbside collections can often reveal a whole heap of interesting furnishing options.
The OUTinPerth team put together this lounge with pieces found in Op Shops.
Side Table
This side table was a great find. A very versatile piece, you pull the knob at the front and it transforms into a larger table. We also love that it’s on wheels, so if you don’t like it one spot, it’s really easy to push it over into the other corner.
Giant Teddy Bear
We couldn’t got past this giant teddy bear, he set us back just $20.00. He was missing one eye, so we got him a pirate patch and named him Pete the Pirate Bear. He has his own Facebook account.
Stylish Danish Arm Chairs
This pair of arm chairs were made in Denmark. We did some googling and found similar ones from the same manufacturer retailing on E-Bay for around $600 each, so the $45 we paid was a bargain. They also recline, if you need a little nap.
Retro Suitcases and Coffee Table Books
We created a coffee table bu placing a wooden top on these three retro suitcases. The great thing is they also create a secret storage space.
We also grabbed some great coffee table books for just a few dollars.
Wooden Side Table
This stylish side table with a marble top set us back just $20.
We spent another $20 to sand it back and apply a new coat of varnish, now it looks as good as new.
Pottery Collection
These vases and jugs costs just a few dollars each but they are totally ‘on trend’ for interior design. We didn’t find them all in one shop though, we trolled through a stack of Op Shops picking one up here and there.
Framed Poster
This framed poster of actress Deborah Mailman was a cool pick up. The value really is in the frame, so if we get bored of Deborah we can switch something else into the frame.
