France: Homophobe MP Ousted

A French politician has been ousted from his party for calling gay culture ‘narcissistic’ and downplaying the persecution of gays in World War II. Christian Vanneste, a member of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s conservative UMP party, faced steep criticism for his comments stating that homosexuality was connected to narcissism since gay people ‘refuse the other’ sex. According to the Washington Post, Vanneste also said the media exaggerated the deportation of homosexuals from Nazi-occupied France, saying there was no homosexual deportation in France. Mickael Bertrand, the author of a book on the deportation of French gay people, says about 60 men were deported from France for being gay.
