Head over to Australian Marriage Equality’s ‘Vote for Love’ website and see where your local politicians stand on the issue.

Last week after the site was launched Labor MP David Feeney acknowledged his support for marriage equality.

Previously Mr Feeney had missed the vote on marriage equality because he was absent for the parliament for portfolio business, but now he has confirmed his position.

“I believe that placing a restriction on marriage so that it can only occur between a man and a woman is not relevant to a modern, secular society. What is important is that when people find a loving relationship, they are afforded the dignity and respect of that relationship from their fellow Australians,” said Mr Feeney.

“I pledge to vote for the marriage equality bill that the Prime Minister has committed to introducing into Parliament, if our Labor Government is re-elected. If our Government is not re-elected, I pledge to vote for any reasonable marriage equality bill that comes before Parliament, providing it supports full equality, does not compel religious organisations to conduct ceremonies against their faith and if I am permitted a conscience vote by my Party.”

Ask Your Local Candidates to Take the PFLAG Pledge

PFLAG, the parents and Friends and Lesbians and Gays have written to every candidate and asked them to pledge their support for marriage equality. This campaign that comes from our friends and families shows that marriage equality is not just about queer people but all of society.

Find out more about this campaign on their Facebook page.
