Fashionable Interiors

When good friends Greg Baker and Sam Shuhandler went to Asia on holiday, they also went looking for Venetian mirrors. In a shop run by a French manufacturer they stumbled on a treasure trove of amazing furniture. After two hours of serious retail therapy, they found that they had purchased enough to fill a shipping container. So in a round about way (some would say back to front) began the story of the store called Baker and Shuhandler.

These close friends have evolved this first container of furniture into an eclectic fusion of stunning home ware choices. With an ability to spot the latest trends in interiors long before they hit our shores, they already have a loyal following of regulars who make their store a must stop on any journey into Mt. Lawley.

It seems that every time I make the journey into Mt Lawley these days there is yet another store opening, offering the discerning fashionista the chance to add something new to their wardrobes. And, located at 2/567 Beaufort Street, just near Preacher and Method, Baker and Shuhandler is a stunning addition to what is fast becoming my favourite place to shop in Perth. With Baker and Shuhandler now you can also make sure that your homes look just as wonderful as you do!

The store is like an Aladdin’s Cave of hidden treasures and you could spend the whole day just admiring the stunning homewares on offer. But Baker and Shuhandler are not just about running a store in Mt Lawley – they also do interior design consulting and work on a complete look that could take you from just one room to a whole house or apartment.

Both Greg and Sam have interior design backgrounds. Greg began with training in fine arts at the Claremont School of Arts and also did furniture design before heading off to London where he worked for a range of different interior design firms. With a keen eye for detail he brings a strong artistic balance to the team.

A style guru with a sense of what really works, Sam has a similarly impressive background with an interior design background that comes from working on a range of top end boutique hotels in Germany. A man of diverse talents, he is also the owner of the Galleria Floral Studio at Centro Galleria.

This designing duo will come in and design the interiors for you and also provide you with all the furniture to really make a statement about whom you are and what they believe will work for you in your environment.

They see the design direction for the coming year to have an undercurrent of golds, brocades and silvers with an element of strong graphic patterning. Think 50’s Hollywood Regency meets a Rococo mix and you get an idea of where they envision the trends ahead.

I defy you not to find something amazing for your house at Baker and Shuhandler. These two guys blend contemporary with baroque. Step into this Mt Lawley sensation and give your place a new fashionable interior or better yet get Greg and Sam to come and do the interiors for you – you won’t be disappointed!
