Farley Jackmaster Funk – The Best of Central Station

Farley JackmasterYet another Classix Trax album, this time displaying the talents of house’s first hit creator Farley (Keith Williams) “Jackmaster” Funk. He is a seminal Chicago DJ and producer, and one of the original members of the Hot 5 DJ team responsible for the ground breaking mix shows on Chicago’s WBMX radio station. Farley was the first house producer to have a single to reach the charts, with the cover of Issac Hayes’ Love Can’t Turn Around making it into the top ten during the middle of ’86 (it would be a year later before house would have its first number one with Steve Silk Hurley’s Jack Your Body). Along with his remake of Steve Wonder’s As Always this is a great collection of the somewhat darker sides of early house and acid house, with tracks like Jackin The Trax, Farley Knows House, The Acid Like and I Need A Friend.
