Excitement Builds Ahead of Fairday

“Taking the event back to Hyde Park is really exciting, because so many people have fond memories of Fairday there,” Smith said.

“Changing the culture of the event, so that people can bring their own picnic basket and bottle of wine, will make it fun and accessible for all members of our community.”

The event will not be selling alcohol but attendees are able to bring their own drinks to the event and are encouraged to bring their own picnic or order one in advance.

“I’m really excited about our patrons being able to pre-order their picnic lunches from Smoult’s Deli, as well as the huge number of stalls and diverse entertainment we have lined up,” Smith said.

This year the event has moved from being the opening event of the Pride Festival in November to being part of the cities successful Fringe Festival.

“Staging and promoting the event within Fringe will also create additional visibility for our community, which is one of Pride’s core objectives,” said Smith.

Smith highlighted that the organisation’s strategic review which is currently underway had already shown that Fairday is one of the local communities favourite events.

The community engagement we are doing us through Pride’s strategic review is telling us that Fairday is our community’s favourite event, and we are really hoping that everyone enjoys the effort we have put to this year’s event,” Smith said.

The last Fairday, which was held in 2012 was voted by reader of OUTinPerth as their favourite event beating The Pride Parade, the Court Hotel’s Pride Night party and the Beaufort Street Festival.

Pride Fairday is in Hyde Park on Sunday February 16th, Gates will open at 11am and the event will run until 6pm. Entry will be $5, but will be free for Pride WA members and children aged under 16.
