Emerging from the 1970's… Kristy Correy's Les Corbeaux

Photography by Penny Lane

At the recent Perth Fashion Festival Les Corbeaux designer Kristy Correy was touted as the one to watch at the New Generation Parade. And with just cause too! Her work includes striking and sharp silhouettes that combine sophistication and independence to create a strong, bold shape for modern women. Add playful gold brocade shift dresses and 70’s inspired high-waisted shorts and it becomes evident that Correy’s take on spring and summer is both carefree and cultured.

Kristy Correy spoke to OUTinPerth’s Scott-Patrick Mitchell about her new collection.

What are the influences behind this collection?

The collection is heavily influenced by the Woody Allen films of the 1970’s, in particular Annie Hall and its star Dianne Keaton. The title of this collection, We Need The Eggs, is a quote from Annie Hall whereby Woody Allen’s character is using it as an analogy to describe relationships.

Can you describe the range of fabrics, textures and looks you have brought together for this collection and explain your choices?

The fabric uses in this collection were silk, cotton and linen which where chosen for their quality, and then the check fabric I thought was a really bold and fun addition to the overall look. In every collection you have to cater for different people and what they feel comfortable wearing, so that is why there is a range of different looks.

How do you expect a woman to feel while wearing your clothes?

I expect people to feel good in what they are wearing, so hopefully when they wear a Les Corbeaux number they feel this way.

What’s next for Les Corbeaux?

I am in the process of showing my Autumn/Winter 08 collection, which will be in stores in February  and March. Beyond that, anything could happen!

Les Corbeaux is available exclusively from Lala Orange and can be found online at www.lalaorange.com and www.pitbullmansion.com.
