Definately A Hit

Hit and Miss is an intriguing new show created by Paul Abbot (Shameless) and produced by Nicola Shindler (Queer as Folk UK). Mia, played Chloe Sevigny (Big Love, Kids, Boys Don’t Cry) is a contract killer working for underworld boss Eddie (Peter Wright).

Mia’s secret is that she is a trans* woman. Her life is thrown upside down when she recieves a letter from an old girlfriend who reveals she is dying from cancer and that Mia has fathered a son, now eleven years old. Mia suddenly finds herself guardian to the young boy Ryan and his three half siblings living on a farm in Yorkshire.

On paper this storyline sounds unbelievable, totally over the top – but somehow it works. As Mia and the four children start to bond and become a family they face off the challenges of a bullying landlord, complex inter-relationships and deal with their grief over the loss of their mother.

There was a lot of criticism that this show did not cast a trans* actress when it was first annouced, but Sevigny is brilliant in the role, it’s totally believable that she is trans* and she pulls off an irish accent to perfection. The supporting cast are first rate with Reece Noi, last seen in ABC’s Silk, taking on the role of older brother Levi, Jorden Bennie as the young boy Ryan and Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood) as Ben, a romantic interest for Mia.

Hit and Miss premieres on ABC 2 on Monday November 5 at 9:30pm, catch up on episodes on the ABC’s iView service.
