Singer Dami Im will represent Australia at Eurovision in Stockholm this year. The former winner of ‘X Factor’ was announced as Australia’s representative at a ceremony last night.
Drag star Conchita Wurst and Guy Sebastian announced Dami Im would be this years contestant at the end of Wurst’s Sydney concert last night.
Im said she was excited to be chosen for the role.
“I am so thrilled and honoured to be representing Australia at Eurovision this year in Stockholm. I am really excited to be following in the footsteps of Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy who have both graced the Eurovision stage before me.” Dami Im said.
“I truly believe that the Australian public and Eurovision fans around the world are going to love the song I will be performing in Sweden. I cannot wait to showcase it to the world and represent Australia to the best of my ability!”
The song that Dami will be singing will be revealed on March 11th.
Jessica Mauboy performed at the competition two years ago highlighting Australia’s love of the European competition. Last year singer Guy Sebastian was an official entrant as part of the competition’s 50th celebrations, he placed fifth overall with his song “Tonight’s the Night’.
Now Australia has been let into the competition once again. Dami Im will have a bigger challenge than Sebastian though, she’ll be beginning in the semi-finals, unlike Sebastian who was automatically put into the finals.
Traditionally the Big 5 European countries don’t have to go into the shows semi-finals, Britain, Italy, Spain, France and Germany always skip the semi-finals.
The contest will be broadcast on SBS’s Eurovision Weekend – 7.30pm Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May, with the prime time broadcasts featuring artist interviews and behind the scenes clips.
Dedicated Eurovision fans can also tune into SBS’s LIVE early morning Semi Final and Grand Final broadcasts on Wednesday 11 May (Semi Final 1), Friday 13 May (Semi Final 2 featuring Australian performance) and Sunday 15 May (Grand Final).
