Corps(e)s, Costumes & Cabaret

corps(e)

In the time of King Louis XV, a royal spy successfully dresses as a woman in order to infiltrate the court of Czarina Elizabeth of Russia. Such begins the diplomatic career of d’Eon de Beaumont: champion fencer, secret agent and first female Freemason. Contemporary inner city Perth and 18th century France may have a few notable differences, however Simon Morrison-Baldwin blurred the lines at the Court Hotel on Wednesday with his electric cabaret performance of Corps(e).

Corps(e) is an intriguing performance, a convoluted story, intricate costumes and grand performing work beautifully together to create a particularly immersive cabaret piece. Morrison-Baldwin gave an electric performance, commanding the stage as he spun tales of yore through a few different characters – which in itself added a depth to the performance that would not be found with just one character.

Not just visual treat, Corps(e) keeps you entertained with a beautiful assortment of music and tunes that always stirred a  giggle in the crowd. Morrison-Baldwin can effortlessly belt out a tune, whether he’s in a soldier’s uniform, or full drag. It’s certainly a sound to be heard.

Corps(e) gives cabaret fans everything they could hope for: camp tunes, magnificent costumes and a romping fun time.

Catch Corps(e) at The Court Hotel until Saturday 14 February, tickets available at Fringeworld.com.au
